Each of the below group is unique and for everybody, women, men, or both.

As a member of any of these group you can support your local Parish and the Diocese of Kamloops to grow in holiness together.

The Serra Club was founded in 1934 by four Catholic Businessmen in Seattle, Washington as a Catholic Service Club. In 1951, under Pope Pius XII, the Serra Club became the only Lay Pontifical in the Catholic Church. There are now over 1,100 Serra clubs in 46 Countries and over 20,000 members.

Our Mission Statement: To foster and affirm vocations to the ordained priesthood and vowed religious life, and through this ministry, to grow in our own Catholic faith.

Patron Saint – St. Junipero Serra – “Always Forward, Never Back”

St. Junipero was born in 1713 in Mallorca, Spain and joined the Franciscans at the age of 16.  He believed in the power of persistent prayer and chose a life of humble service.  When he was 36, Junipero volunteered to go to the new world as a missionary in Mexico with his first stop being at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadeloupe.  At the age of 56 he began establishing missions in California advocating for the Indigenous peoples. St. Junipero Serra’s mission primarily included building churches and schools for the poor, catechizing and building relationships in Christ with those around him.

Having traveled 38, 624km as missionary by foot, Junipero died at the age of 70.  He was canonized in September of 2015 and his feast day is July 1.

“All my life I have wanted to carry the gospel message to those who have never heard of God and the kingdom he has prepared for them.” ~St. Junipero Serra

The Knights of Columbus was established in 1882 by Father Michael J. McGivney, assistant pastor of St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Conn., and a group of parishioners. Their intent? To bring financial aid and assistance to the sick, disabled and needy members and their families. Today, Blessed Michael McGivney is being considered for sainthood.

The organization has over 2.0 million members around the world, we have been investing our time, effort and resources into our values of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism since 1882.

The history of the Order shows how the foresight of Father Michael J. McGivney, whose cause for sainthood is being investigated by the Vatican, brought about what has become the world’s foremost Catholic fraternal benefit society. The Order has helped families obtain economic security and stability through its life insurance, annuity and long-term care programs, and has contributed time and energy worldwide to service in communities.

The Knights of Columbus has grown from several members in one council to more than 14,000 councils throughout the United States, Canada, the Philippines, Mexico, Poland, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Bahamas, the Virgin Islands, Cuba, Guatemala, Guam and Spain.

CWL MISSION STATEMENT:  The Catholic Women’s League of Canada calls its members to grow in faith, and to witness to the love of God through ministry and service.

The Catholic Women’s League provides the support of a sisterhood in living your faith journey with women on a similar faith journey.

The Catholic Women’s League of Canada is an inclusive and engaged community of Catholic women inspired by faith.  It is a vital participant in the church, a valued partner for social justice, a respected advocate at all government levels.

The CWL council at Sacred Heart Cathedral is primarily focussed on supporting our Church, our clergy, our parishioners and our community at large.

We promote the teachings of the Catholic faith through support of Catholic students, Women’s Days of Reflection and CWL retreats.     Sacred Heart CWL provides a scholarship for a deserving graduating student who is continuing their education.  We protect the sanctity of human life and recognize the human dignity of all people through financial supporting the Hopewell Pregnancy Centre, Pro-Life Society, St. Vincent de Paul , assisting immigrant families in our parish, and providing funeral receptions as requested.

Members join the CWL for many reasons – political action, prayer driven, bible driven, friendship driven – it can be whatever you want to make it.

The CWL contributes to the shaping of our country as our representatives go to the legislature and speak about our resolutions with the MPs. We have a voice on social issues and take action.  By signing up as a CWL member, you have a voice that can be heard, along with 70,000 other women in Canada, at a much greater level.  The CWL has a meeting every year with the provincial and federal governments so it can advocate for change.    Together we are stronger than alone.

Membership is the Catholic Women’s League is extremely rewarding when you think about the difference you make in other people’s lives.  You are welcome; we need you; your parish needs you and your country needs you.

Sacred Heart Cathedral Catholic Women’s League meets monthly (September to June) in the parish downstairs hall on the first Tuesday of each month at 7pm.  The December and June meetings are social in nature.  Each monthly meeting includes a spiritual presentation, a business meeting and time for sisterhood.

For information on the CWL, please contact parish CWL president, Heather Correale 780-718-6029 or secretary, Dianne Barker 250-819-2875.
